LASIK
The #1 Laser Vision Correction Procedure

Discover the Benefits of LASIK
LASIK, or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a state-of-the-art surgical procedure that is designed to reduce your dependency on glasses and contact lenses. By using the latest in laser vision correction technology, Drs. Melvyn Gerstein and Craig Gerstein can ensure each patient receives optimal results.

Types of Vision Problems Corrected
LASIK treats refractive errors, such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism (oval curvature).

The Procedure
During the LASIK procedure, Dr. Gerstein creates a flap on the surface of the cornea with the IntraLase laser. A computer-controlled excimer laser is then used to remove the proper amount of corneal tissue. In less than one minute, the excimer laser reshapes the internal cornea. The thin flap of corneal tissue is then folded back into its original position.

Take Advantage of the Latest Advances in LASIK

LADARVision®
At the Gerstein Eye Institute, we use the LADARVision® wavefront Custom Cornea System for its unsurpassed technological excellence and superior visual Custom LASIK results. This FDA-approved system combines state-of-the-art wavefront mapping technology with a flying spot excimer laser and active tracking system to achieve unparalleled accuracy in treatment. If you are interested in a treatment, please contact the Gerstein Eye Institute today.

The system's technology, originally developed for use in astronomy, first creates an extremely detailed, three-dimensional map of your eyes' unique visual aberrations. This procedure allows Dr. Gerstein to perfect your sight with the Custom Cornea procedure. By using this procedure, they can now treat lower order visual aberrations (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism), as well as higher order aberrations that are commonly associated with night vision problems such as glare and halos.

In addition, the unique design and tracking system ensures absolutely accurate placement of the laser beam as it reshapes your cornea. The system is designed with a narrow beam excimer laser (just .8mm wide), capable of removing microscopic amounts of corneal tissue. This innovation is also equipped with flying spot technology and the LADARVision wavefront active tracking system, which work together to compensate for your eye's involuntary movements during surgery. The LADARVision makes use of an infrared laser, a positioning sensor, and tracking mirrors to measure and predict even the smallest eye movements, while the flying spot laser beam is able to retarget its area of focus in under 10 milliseconds. The Custom Cornea system using LADARVision wavefront technology performed by Dr. Gerstein will have patients seeing with clarity.

Intralase FS Laser
The Gerstein Eye Institute is proud to offer our patients the option of all-laser Custom LASIK with our state-of-the-art Intralase FS laser (femtosecond laser). Intralase has revolutionized the first stage of Custom LASIK surgery-which up until now has required the use of a mechanical blade called a microkeratome to create the corneal flap-by replacing that blade with safer, more accurate laser technology for the system. The narrow beam size and rapid pulse of this FDA-approved laser allow Custom LASIK surgeons to target the exact depth and location at which to create the flap, resulting in precise, predictable flap incisions. In addition, use of this laser in the procedure to create the flap avoids possible complications from the high eye pressure induced when using the microkeratome blade. The results: precise, predictable incisions and greater flap stability following your procedure. If you would like to learn more about the Custom Cornea system, which makes use of the LADARVision wavefront tracking technology, and all-laser LASIK with our Intralase laser, please contact the Gerstein Eye Institute today.
