Postoperative Instructions (Cataract)
Your first post-operative visit to the office is scheduled the day after surgery at 8am or 1pm. An antibiotic, a non steroidal anti-inflammatory and a steroid drops to be taken as directed.
VISION - WHAT TO EXPECT
You may wear your glasses immediately after surgery. Your vision should begin improving within a few days. It is quite common to have redness, blurred vision, a scratchy sensation and even a slight headache. To relieve this discomfort you may take any over-the-counter pain relief medication that you normally use.
Most patients prefer to wear sunglasses when out in the sunshine to reduce the glare and make their eye feel more comfortable.
ACTIVITIES
It is a good idea to rest at home the day of surgery. You may be up and about as you wish, but avoid strenuous activities. You may watch television or read.
You may take a bath/shower, wash your hair or go to the beauty shop. Keep your eye closed to prevent soap, shampoo or hairspray from getting in your eye.
CALL THE OFFICE If you experience severe pain or sudden decrease in vision after surgery. Call the office at (773) 973-3223.
