Preoperative Instructions (Cataract)
Medication Take your medication as you normally do. However, we do recommend that if you take a Diuretic (water pill), that you take it following the surgery. Diabetic patients should take their insulin. If you are taking Glaucoma medication, please check with your doctor. Please bring ALL of your medications with you on the day of surgery.
Eye drops You will be given a prescription for 2 eye drops at the time your surgery is scheduled. An antibiotic and a non steroidal anti-inflammatory to be taken as directed, starting three days before your surgery date.
Day of Surgery You may have a light breakfast the morning of surgery. No products containing caffeine. A bath or shower may be taken the evening before or the morning of surgery. No make-up, perfume, aftershave, or cologne. Wear comfortable clothing. Please do not bring any valuables on the day of surgery. You may wear dentures or hearing aids, as well as glasses, but you should bring a case with you. Novamed Surgery Center is not responsible for misplaced items.
Transportation Please have a friend, relative and/or translator with you on the day of surgery. If this is not possible, please inform us immediately. You cannot drive yourself home following the surgery.
Surgery Time We will call you one day prior to your surgery date to confirm your arrival time. If you have questions on the day of surgery please call Novamed Surgery Center at 773-973-7432.
Post-operatively It will be necessary for you to return to the office the day after your surgery for a follow-up appointment. This appointment will be @ 8am or 1pm. You are permitted to drive yourself the day after your surgery.
Please don't forget to bring a pair of sunglasses with you and use the WHIPPLE STREET entrance on the day of surgery. We look forward to seeing you!
