Preoperative Instructions (LASIK)
Location Illinois Masonic Medical Center (836 West Wellington, Chgo 60657) 5th Floor Vision Correction Center
Dress Code Wear Comfortable clothing. Do not wear any perfume, cologne, after-shave or jewelry.
Make-up NO EYE MAKEUPOR FOUNDATION ON SURGERY DAY. The evening before surgery, soak the eye with a warm washcloth to remove all makeup.
Diet Eat a light meal prior to surgery. Avoid caffeine products after 10:00 AM on day of surgery.
Anesthesia Topical drops. No IV?s or needles are involved.
Driver Mandatory for surgery. You may resume driving on next day when vision allows.
Vision Vision will be corrected to allow your best range of vision at near and distance. If over age 40, you may experience reading difficulty for 4-6 weeks.
Astigmatism May be corrected with the laser at time of surgery.
Contact lens
Discontinue gas perm/hard contact lenses 3 weeks prior to surgery/pre-op testing.
Discontinue soft contact lenses 3 days prior to surgery/pre- op testing.
Pregnancy Are you pregnant, breast feeding, or trying to conceive?
Alternatives to Surgery Alternative to surgery is NO TREATMENT which would necessitate glasses or contact lenses to correct vision.
Activity Limitations
Remain quiet the evening of surgery. A short nap is advised.
You may return back to work following your 1 day post-operative exam when your vision and comfort allow.
Use extreme caution when applying or removing make-up. Your depth perception may be effected.
Do not rub or bump your eye for 2 months after surgery.
After 1 week you may resume swimming with goggles. No water skiing or water sports, which may result in impact on the water, for one month after surgery.
Use caution when participating in contact sports.
Wear a shield while napping or sleeping for 1 week following surgery.
Visits Pre-op, post-op 1 day (3 day optional per doctor), 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 12 month. You may be dilated at your 3 or 6 month visit.
Post-operative visits Post-operative visits will be performed at your surgeon’s office beginning with the one day visit. Comanaging post-operative visits will be performed by co-managing physician beginning with the 1 day / 1 week / 1 month visit.
